Local Bus Services

I am happy to receive comments about bus services in the constituency. Obviously I don't run the timetable or the private companies who operate the buses, but I am a strong supporter of good, local frequent bus services. I will therefore always try to influence all parties involved to provide the best and cheapest services possible.

I have also called in Parliament for greater regulation of bus services as I believe the Tories bus de-regulation was one of the worst things to happen to public transport.

Loughborough Bus Station?

Like most people I fully support the principle of Loughborough having a proper facility for bus users in the town centre. However, there are clearly differing needs and a full cost analysis needs to be put forward. For example suggestions about using the Baxter Gate site need to be put into the context that purchase of the site alone would be £1.5 million. By all means campaign for a new station, but let us ensure the public have the full facts and costs that as council tax payers they will have to pay!

What is actually needed is very specific response to what the public actually want and what they mean by bus station. From my discussions it means dry, warm facilities to wait for a bus near the town centre. That can mean a variety of things to different people and the term station can mean different things.
