MP Welcomes ‘Shoe Biz’ Appeal
Loughborough MP Andy Reed has this week welcomed the launch of the latest Blue Peter Appeal. The ‘Shoe Biz’ Appeal aims to raise money for AIDS orphans in Malawi by recycling unwanted shoes.
The initial target is to collect 500,000 pairs of shoes which will generate funds by being sold abroad. The money will be used to purchase items such as pens, crayons, blankets, cooking utensils, books and water pumps and for training support workers.
Andy is keen to support this appeal and will be donating some of his old shoes to help the campaign. He would also like to encourage constituents to get involved.
Reed said:
“Once again Blue Peter has come up with fantastic and innovative appeal, which promises to raise large sums of money that will really improve the lives of the 600,000 or more children orphaned by AIDS in Malawi.”
“I do hope that people in Loughborough will get behind the appeal and donate their unwanted shoes to make a difference to the lives of children in Africa.”
“If people want to donate shoes to the appeal they can take any unwanted pairs of shoes to the Loughborough branch of Clarks shoe shop, or find more information on the Blue Peter website.”
