Railway Services to Loughborough

Reed 'Surprised' at Rail Franchise News (June 2007)

Andy Reed MP said he was "surprised" to learn that the East Midlands Rail Franchise had been awarded to Stagecoach instead of Midland Mainline. He said "I had heard a rumour that front runners Midland Mainline were not automatic choices but this has come as a surprise. I have been working hard with Midland Mainline over the last 2 years to secure additional funding for station improvements at Loughborough and additional car parking. As an Officer of the All Party Midland Mainline Group I will be trying to set up an urgent meeting with Stagecoach to make sure they will put in the same level of investment on improvements at Loughborough as Midland Mainline had promised to me. This will certainly be my priority in the next few weeks - to secure a the best deal for Loughborough"

November 2005 - MP Helps Set Up Midland Mainline Group

Andy Reed MP joined other regional MPs today to establish a new All Party Parliamentary Group - a Midland Mainline Group. Andy Reed became on of the officers of the group at its inaugural meeting. He said : "I have been working on issues relating to Midland Mainline for years in Parliament and it has become increasingly clear that many MPs have similar issues along the length of the Midland Mainline route. For too long it has been the Cinderella route for funding and only by working together can we hope to shift the balance in our favour.

"There are many exciting projects which offer opportunities - as well as some threats to our services. The completion of St Pancras and routes to Paris and Brussels will help open new opportunities for business. But we also need to talk about track upgrade, station improvements at places like Loughborough, the new franchise in 2008 as well as the Parkway Station being built north of Loughborough. I hope to be able to use this group to raise the local questions nationally and get further improvements to rail services in Loughborough.

September 2004

I continue to hold talks with Midland Mainline and Central Trains about their services.

June 2003

Following a number of changes to the Loughborough timetable I am aware that some difficulties have been caused for some people.

I have taken up a number of these concerns with Midland Mainline directly and will meet with them to discuss how they can best serve Loughborough.

I understand their difficulties in producing a timetable with so many services using the line, but feel they could have given much greater consideration to the needs of Loughborough.

The timetable is unlikely to change for a few months, but I hope to be able to influence the times on the next timetable produced.
