Recycling and Wheelie Bins

The Borough Council needs to increase its recycling rate to meet Government and European standards. We need to increase our recycling of waste because when waste is just thrown into landfill tips it generates methane and other greenhouse gases, which will eventually destroy the planet and are currently causing major environmental problems.

Charnwood has now recommending that we move to a new system involving doorstep glass collection, a new cardboard collection, our familiar green recycling bags for other recyclable waste and a wheelie bin for the rest which can't be recycled. The wheelie bin is necessary because it has proved to be an effective way of limiting residual waste when accompanied by effective recycling options.
