Reed backs workers in fight to ensure better conditions

Andy Reed, MP for Loughborough, has put pressure on the Department of Trade and Industry to take steps to ensure that employees are given the proper breaks and working hours they are entitled to under EU legislation.
The EU working time directive states that workers must be given a 20-minute rest break if the working day is longer than six hours and are limited to eight hours of night work, on average, in each 24-hour period.
Campaigners are concerned that workers rights are being violated because the DTI is not doing enough to enforce the law. There is also continued debate over the UK’s decision to opt-out of the 48-hour working week clause.
Andy has consistently championed the rights of workers to a greater work-life balance and will continue to do so.
The response from the minister will be posted on this site when it becomes available.
Reed said:
“I believe it is vitally important that all workers receive a fair deal and are given the breaks and other entitlements they are due.”
“I will work to pressure the DTI to do more to ensure employers abide by the rules that are laid out for them and allow a better work-life balance for all.”
