Shepshed Regeneration Plans
I pressed strongly for an improvement to facilities in the centre of Shepshed when I was a member of the Borough Council (1995-97). Since then the Borough Council has worked with Town Council bringing in consultants (oddly named Flying Giraffe, but very effective) to develop more ideas to regenerate Shepshed.
The Hall Croft scheme has been completed and the exciting mosaic on the side of the library is there for all to see.
However, Shepshed needs a managed work space to generate new employment opportunities in the town. I will work with local councillors until this is brought to fruition.
I have been doing what I can to help regenerate Shepshed's shopping centre, but there are some things that are simply up to the private sector. I fear that if another supermarket came to Shepshed, the existing one would be forced to close. The root of the problem is that too many people drive to Loughborough or Coalville, rather than supporting Shepshed shops. However I will support any measures we can take to help the local shops to thrive.
