A Smoking Ban in Public Places - My Views

The BMA and others have once again called for a ban on smoking in public places.

Personally I would back a move to ban smoking in public places. I no longer enjoy visits to pubs because of the toxic fumes I have to inhale and then wash my clothes when I return to get rid of the vile smell.

The solution is simple. No smoking is the rule and if people want to smoke they can enter the 'smoking booths' we see in many places set out specifically for them. Already there are many no smoking areas - shops, shopping areas, offices etc and this all works perfectly well. An extension to other public places would be very welcome.

At the end of the day there is an element of personal choice about smoking, although I would take a much tougher line. A personla choice that then leads to hundreds of thousands of premature deaths each year and costs us as taxpayers billions has to be tackled.

The smokers who argue it is their 'right' to smoke where they like simply don't understand how revolting their habit is not just to themsleves, but by invading other peoples' freedom to choose fresh air.
